But as our studio has grown, our projects have evolved and my own family has changed, I’ve realized it was time for our brand to better communicate what we actually do for our clients.

I’m Jess Kern, and I Design Homes for Real Life

I’m Jess Kern, founder and lead designer of Interior Vision Design Studio, an interior architecture and design studio serving families throughout the Coastal Carolinas, Maui and the Hawaiian Islands, as well as select projects nationwide.

But those titles only tell you part of the story.

I’m also a wife, a mom, a business owner, a traveler and someone who believes some of the best moments of our lives happen at home.

Around the kitchen island.

At a dining table filled with people.

On the sofa during movie night.

Around the pool when friends stay longer than expected.

In the guest room when grandparents come to visit.

And in all the ordinary moments in between.

Having my own family has only strengthened something I’ve believed throughout my career:

A home shouldn’t just photograph beautifully. It should live beautifully.

Our specialty is creating elevated, hospitality-inspired homes for busy, successful families who love to gather, entertain, travel and live well.

Think about the best hotel or resort you’ve ever visited.

You probably remember how effortless it felt.

The lighting was layered perfectly. There was somewhere to put everything. Spaces flowed naturally into one another. The materials felt special. Your bedroom felt like a retreat. The bathroom anticipated what you needed. Outdoor areas invited you to stay awhile.

Great hospitality design makes an experience feel effortless.

We believe your home should do the same.

Why We Don’t Start With Paint Colors

One of the biggest misconceptions about interior design is that designers come in toward the end to select furniture, paint colors and accessories.

For the types of homes we design, that’s far too late.

Some of the most important interior design decisions happen while your home still exists on paper.

Before construction begins, we’re asking questions like:

Where does everyone drop their bags when they walk in?

Can guests reach a bathroom without walking through private areas?

Does your kitchen work when five people are gathered around the island?

Where will the Christmas tree go?

Can grandparents comfortably stay with you?

Does your home office offer privacy when the rest of the house is busy?

Are outlets actually located where furniture will go?

Is there enough storage where you need it?

Can people move easily between the kitchen and outdoor entertaining areas?

Does the primary suite actually feel like a retreat?

These may sound like small details.

They’re not.

They’re the difference between a house that looks incredible on a blueprint and a home that feels incredible to live in.

The Expensive Decisions Happen Earlier Than Most Homeowners Realize
